Kenilworth’s 125th Anniversary – Heritage Tree Program
Today’s Kenilworth residents have benefited from previous generations’ vision and many contributions to our community.
It’s now our turn to “pay it forward” and do our part to ensure that our Village continues to be the beautiful place we love and would like to see our children raise their families.
The Heritage Tree Program 2021 commemorates the 125th Anniversary Year for The Village of Kenilworth! The goal of the Program is for all residents, civic organizations, garden clubs, schools and churches to partner and plant 125 Heritage Trees in 2021. This initiative works to restore the canopy of old growth trees we have lost since the Village was founded in 1896, and to preserve the beauty, integrity and stability of our verdant community for the future. Trees clean our air and water, reduce flooding, improve property values, create habitat for wildlife, and provide significant social and health benefits. Trees add immeasurable beauty and improve our quality of life.
The Village Board has provided some seed money for success, but everyone’s participation is essential. There are many ways to get involved. First, residents or organizations can celebrate or honor special friends, family members, teachers, or an event by gifting “tribute” trees through the Heritage Tree Program for planting along parkways, playgrounds and in parkland settings. Tree selections in this Program are diverse and suitable for a variety of locations. “Tribute Trees” will be featured each month in the Village newsletter. The campaign also encourages residents to plant trees on their own property and provides links to help participants become “tree champions” in tending their heritage trees and encourages all to highlight them on our dedicated social media outlets.
We hope you’ll consider supporting the Heritage Tree Program, so that we can build momentum and bring the entire community together — residents and organizations — standing together under one great canopy that enhances the quality of life for all who enjoy our beautiful Village.
